8 Rules for Success – Part 2

Trust Yourself & Ignore the Haters
The greatest motivational speeches I’ve ever heard were from people who told me I couldn’t do something.  In my first job as a settlement clerk I was told by my boss “You will never be a lawyer and you will never amount to anything.” (She used those exact words). It only made me more determined. I attained my Master’s degree and 5 years later I started a banking and finance law firm that it now topping it’s industry.

The history books are filled with iconic people who were once rejected or told by someone that they weren’t good enough. So trust yourself!

Who you choose to give your time and presence to, matters. I have come to realise that food, water, air and sunshine are not the most important nutrients that sustain our life force and happiness. Rather, it is the energy we absorb from people we allow into our lives. Don’t accept energy from anyone that brings you down. Not even for one minute.

Don’t be Afraid to Fail

Everything I ever did, I was always willing and prepared to fail. I was always willing to be mocked, ridiculed or rejected. You cannot always win but you should never let that paralyse you into doing nothing. That’s the worst kind of failure.

Break The Rules

Not the law. A company gets to the top by breaking the rules of mediocre business. There are so many rules these days all designed to make us like everyone else. It makes it difficult to be original. The only way I ever got anywhere is by breaking some of the rules.

 Be Humble

Humility is the number 1 quality I look for in friends and colleagues. Where there’s humility there is loyalty. And where there is humility there is empathy. It is good to be ambitious but ambition without humility will make you rush into decisions from the ego. And you will never ever be successful if you are driven by your ego.
